Reduce, Renew, Balance
3Degrees encourages our business partners to adopt World Resources Institute’s (WRI) Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol when preparing a greenhouse gas emissions inventory.

Direct GHG emissions that occur from sources owned or controlled by your company, e.g., emissions from combustion in owned/ controlled boilers, furnaces, vehicles, etc. |
GHG emissions from the generation of purchased electricity consumed by your company. Scope 2 emissions physically occur at the facility where electricity is generated. |
GHG emissions that are a consequence of the company's activities but occur from sources not owned/controlled, e.g., extraction & production of purchased goods; employee commercial flying; use of sold products. |

Take Action
Once you have measured your carbon footprint, 3Degrees recommends a comprehensive Reduce. Renew. Balance. approach for partners to consider on their path to becoming carbon neutral:
| Start by reducing your emissions as much as possible through energy efficiency and conservation. Visit our Cool Facts for ways you can reduce your impact. |
Switch your electricity to renewable energy since it is readily available through onsite generation or Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and it is preferable to replace dirty power (fossil fuels) with an equivalent clean choice. |
Balance out remaining emissions by supporting high quality Verified Emission Reduction (VER) (aka, carbon offset) projects elsewhere. As a result, you will be both “carbon neutral” and green powered. |
