CV Therapeutics Increases Purchase Of Renewable Energy Through PaloAltoGreen
Commitment is one of the largest in the program
PALO ALTO, Calif. - August 21, 2008 - City of Palo Alto Utilities (CPAU), announced today that CV Therapeutics® (CVT) will increase its participation in PaloAltoGreen, CPAU’s clean renewable energy program, managed and marketed in the community by 3Degrees. CVT will purchase over one-half of the output of one large-scale wind turbine, on an annual basis.
Derived from clean wind and solar generation sources, CVT’s renewable power commitment – 1,596,000 kilowatt hours annually – is one of the largest clean power commitments to PaloAltoGreen. It also raises their ranking in the U.S. EPA Green Power Partnership. “We are pleased by CVT’s participation in PaloAltoGreen,” said Brian Ward, PaloAltoGreen Program Manager. “We hope other businesses in our community will join them in supporting renewable energy through PaloAltoGreen.”
CVT’s clean power commitment will avoid the annual release of 2,251,956 pounds of carbon dioxide, a potent greenhouse gas. This has the annual environmental equivalence to protecting 232 acres of trees or removing 187 cars from the road.
“Over the past six years CVT has dedicated resources to make our Palo Alto facilities as energy-efficient as possible, and we have been rewarded with a substantial savings in operating costs. We are glad to reinvest some of these savings into the purchase of renewable energy,” said Chris Brey, CVT’s Director of Facilities.
