California Energy Markets: Marin Has Lofty Goals for Green Pricing Program
February, 19, 2010
The February 19, 2010 issue of California Energy Markets featured an article headlined Marin Has Lofty Goals for Green Pricing Program which included several quotes from 3Degree’s Adam Capage.
Article Highlights:
- Claire Kreycik, of NREL’s Strategic Energy Analysis Center. “In general, it can be said that the voluntary market is a source of ongoing revenue for renewable energy generators, and, even absent long-term power purchase agreements, supports their bottom line.”
- “The advantage of the utility working with RECs is basically that it boils down to flexibility,” said Adam Capage, vice president of utility partnerships for the firm 3Degrees Group Inc., which markets green-pricing programs to utility customers, and also provides the RECs to programs. “You never know how many are going to sign up and what demand is going to be.”
- Firms like 3Degrees can further reduce the risk of managing a REC supply, since they purchase the RECs on the volatile market for green electricity and provide them to utilities at an agreed-upon price.
