Acterra Honors 3Degrees for Green Business Practies and Market Leadership
3Degrees Selected to Receive Environmental Enterprise Award
SAN FRANCISCO — May 28, 2009 — Acterra today announced the winners of the prestigious 2009 Business Environmental Awards, identifying ten companies and organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary environmental leadership from among this year’s highly competitive field. Once again, innovative Bay Area companies have proven their commitment to the environment with their extensive and creative sustainability practices.
3Degrees was selected as the Top Environmental Enterprise in the Small Company category for its leadership in building the local and national carbon and renewable energy markets. Through commitments from its customers, 3Degrees has supported the reduction of 3.89 million metric tons of Carbon Dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions.
“The U.S. is at an important crossroads for addressing climate change.” said Steve McDougal, Executive Vice President at 3Degrees. “Getting recognized by Acterra is a true honor and helps to reinforce the tireless work our team does with our partners to reduce our collective impact on the planet.”
During the rigorous three-month judging process which involved 25 regional environmental and sustainability experts, the competitors showcased their environmental innovations in six categories including sustainability; sustainable built environment; environmental and sustainability education; environmental enterprise; commute and transportation, and pollution prevention/resource conservation. “3Degrees gained the edge in a very competitive field of applicants due to its pioneering climate mitigation products and services,” said Tom Moutoux of the Business Environmental Awards Judging Committee. “They are a small company with a very large impact; in 2008 3Degrees offset 460,000 metric tons of CO2 and sold over 5 million Megawatt-hours of renewable electricity credits, enough carbon reduction to offset over 140,000 cars and the renewable electricity to power nearly one million homes.”
3Degrees will be honored at the 2009 Business Environmental Awards Reception on May 28th.
Since 1990 Acterra’s Business Environmental Awards program has recognized over one hundred Bay Area businesses and academic and nonprofit organizations for excellence in environmental leadership.
